Ethiopian Table SettingsIf you were in Ethiopia being served a meal you would sit on a low stool (not more than a foot off the floor) and your table would be a domed or lidded mesab (a wicker hourglass-shaped table). The dome is removed to reveal a large layer of Injera (a sourdough flat-bread made from Teff) that covers the whole table top. Next an assortment of stews and other foods is portioned out directly on the Injera. The meal is then eaten by tearing off pieces of the Injera, scooping up some of the stews and then making small rolls to eat. The dishes can be set off to the side while eating. This may be difficult to duplicate in the average home so it is fine to serve the Injera then the stews on individual plates. Go on the wild side when decorating for an Ethiopian meal. Using wooden serving dishes and keeping the colors rustic will all add to the ambience! Make your meal complete - use these helpful links: Ethiopian music /
